Biography

Cory is a graduate of the MA in Counselling program at Central Seminary in Kansas, and a current student in the Doctor of Clinical Pastoral Counselling program at Washington University of Virginia. His professional designations include Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCPA), Counselling Therapist (ACTA), and Associate Professional Counsellor (PACCP). Cory’s affinity for working with individuals living with diabetes arises from his own personal experience as the father of a child who was diagnosed with T1D at the age of five. For more than 15 years, he has experienced first-hand the realities of life with T1D and has gained additional perspective through his family’s ties with the broader T1D community. Cory is excited to link his personal experience with his clinical practice by serving individuals and families whose lives have been touched by diabetes. His therapeutic work is rooted in an evidence-based approach called the Relational Spirituality Model, which aids clients in exploring their desires for meaning, identity, and connection and in addressing how their lives are shaped through key relationships and experiences. When a client’s needs call for something different, however, he employs other proven approaches like Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, or Solution-Focused Brief Therapy. Cory’s ultimate hope is to create safe space within which every person can feel free to be honest about themselves, their struggles, and their questions.
