Biography

Katharine Heimbigner-Tenor is a Registered Provisional Psychologist based in Calgary, Alberta with a strong personal and professional commitment to supporting individuals living with diabetes and other chronic illnesses.

Katharine lives with Type 2 diabetes and lost her father to heart and kidney failure due to diabetes-related complications. This lived experience gives her a unique understanding of the physical, emotional, and psychological burdens clients may face.

Her practice is holistic, integrating both top-down and bottom-up approaches that consider the spiritual, cognitive, physical, and emotional dimensions of healing. She draws from various modalities including Internal Family Systems (IFS), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and the Safe and Sound & Rest and Restore Protocols . These approaches support clients in building practical skills while addressing deeper challenges such as stigma, grief, and shame—common themes in chronic illness.

Katharine values collaborative care and works alongside other healthcare providers, including complementary medicine practitioners such as massage therapists, acupuncturists, and naturopaths.

She offers a warm, non-judgmental space where clients can explore the impact of diabetes on their mental health, relationships, and identity. Whether newly diagnosed or coping with long-term complications, Katharine’s compassionate and integrative approach supports meaningful healing and growth.
